A year ago, around September, I began to think intensively about the problem of time tokens in the context of AI. This problem interested me because I was building a mechanism that would allow for live reactions to incidents and suggest actions or introduce corrections. Without going into technical details, the system was multi-stage with various fuses and modules, which I painstakingly analyzed for weeks. The basic problem I encountered was the lack of linearity, data integrity, and loss of context. Pompously called “hallucinating” by some. This all mainly boiled down to the problem with the time token, which in the context of changelogs, git, and what happens in commits and feedback from various probes (logs, reports, tests) would provide information for data integrity. This was missing. Because the LLM/AI did not have its own token, it was supplied from the analyzed sources.

Fighting propagandist content in local government media is difficult because they serve as a “vehicle for maintaining power,” while the strategy of examining the advertising ecosystem may bring concrete results. These mechanisms, although technically possible and common in internet marketing, raise serious doubts when applied on such a scale on a portal financed with public money. Suddenly, it may turn out that the quiet neighborhood is a thing of the past and they can build a chicken coop, a waste sorting plant or a DIY store, and you won’t be able to build anything because a meadow is planned there to protect biodiversity, which was not considered when the whole area was concreted over. Does it sound like a nightmare scenario? Unfortunately, this is the Polish reality, resulting from a systemic problem that can be described as information asymmetry. A few days ago I commented on the case of the hostel in Pszów, where 5 people died in a fire. This so-called hostel is a typical building illegally converted for collective housing. To my surprise, after a few questions and answers, the AI offered to provide an SVG file in ZIP format. This raised two red flags - firstly, SVG files are risky technology for anyone working with web unless properly sanitized and secured, but the offer to package it gave me real chills. I decided to take a break from work, and within minutes (~10 minutes), I managed to force GPT4o paid version to bypass what I consider important security measures.

In today’s inaugural fragment, we will tackle information that electrified internet users in the second week of May. A solar storm and the solar wind reaching Earth were said to be the cause of increased aurora borealis activity. According to scientists, this could be observed in Poland and many other places around the world. Unfortunately, cloudy skies thwarted our observation plans.

Conspiracy theories quickly started to appear on social networks, questioning whether the solar storm generated such a phenomenon.

Today’s post was inspired by reading several books, which I’ll mention, and listening to interviews including one with Piotr Pytlakowski, who wrote The Zone of Oblivion about the disappearing and erasing of the history of Polish Jews. I remember being in the Balkans and asking locals about empty spaces in the village or abandoned decaying houses. They replied: we don’t know, they left. Of course, most of these people were massacred during the ethnic cleansing of the war in former Yugoslavia. Our entire culture is based on tradition and memory, and what is silenced and repressed fades away. Observing the sudden technological leap, changes in information-seeking habits, and also in information dissemination, I began to ponder the phenomenon of disappearance in the digital world.

What’s worse, in the era of fighting disinformation, reputable bookstores like HELION, PWN, and subscription services like Empik GO distribute this content in their offerings, whether knowingly or not, contributing to disinformation.

How should we understand this? The essence of this action is that information is introduced into circulation, presented in a certain manner, and bolstered by authority figures (such as prosecutors, police officers, investigative journalists, or public figures like ministers). As a result, this information takes on a life of its own and begins to be perceived by the public as truth or facts. The purpose of disinformation is to manipulate public opinion or influence the course of criminal proceedings.
